Celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Impressionism, Barbizon and Yerres, both of which were strongly influenced by this artistic movement, are organising a number of festivities from spring 2024 onwards.
At Barbizon, the exhibition at the Musée des peintres de Barbizon entitled Se souvenir de Théodore Rousseau, on from 9th March to 16th June, pays homage to this member of the Barbizon School of artists who first adopted the practice of painting en plein air, out of doors, that so inspired the Impressionists. Guided tours, forest walks and readings and lectures add to the celebrations of Impressionism and its precursors. The Communauté d’agglomération Val d’Yerres Val de Seine and the Maison Caillebotte are proposing a rich and varied programme to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Impressionism: lectures, films, concerts, ballet, theatre, readings, debates, creative workshops, exhibitions… The season will also feature Impressionist weekends and a Sunday on the theme of Déjeuner sur l’herbe (The Luncheon on the Grass).
The Maison Caillebotte, on its part, celebrates a double anniversary: the 150th year since the birth of Impressionism and 130 years since the death of the artist Caillebotte. To mark the occasion, from spring, an exceptional array of this painter’s works will be displayed in his studio in Yerres. A series of lectures and a musical creation entitled Visions sonores will also be staged here.
