This summer, the Musée des impressionnismes Giverny presents the exhibition Collections in the Garden. Andrea Branzi, the Realm of the Living , drawn from its own collection, centred on the theme of gardens—a motif through which Claude Monet’s enduring influence can be traced across the 20th century, from Pierre Bonnard to Joan Mitchell and into the realm of contemporary design.
In collaboration with the Centre Pompidou, curated by Marie-Ange Brayer, the museum is presenting a group of works by Italian designer and architect Andrea Branzi, who died in 2023. Fascinated by the figure of Monet, Branzi saw in him a fellow architect who, through his garden, had constructed his own nature. Through a compelling ensemble of furniture, drawings, and models, the exhibition explores Branzi’s reflections on the future of humanity and our relationship with the living world. At its centre is Bamboo Interior Wood, a monumental installation made of painted bamboo, recently acquired by the Centre Pompidou in 2024.
On Saturday 12th July, children will be invited to discover the exhibition at a specially adapted opening: a special welcome for children and their carer(s) at 3pm, a guided tour for children only at 3.15pm and sweet treats for all in the Atelier at 4pm. This event is free, reserved for 4-12 year-olds and limited to 20 places (registration required).
On Thursday 11th September at 6pm, the exhibition curator, Marie-Ange Brayer, curator and head of the Design and Industrial Prospective department at the musée national d’art moderne, Centre Pompidou, will give a lecture on the career of the Italian designer, architect and theorist, who was passionate about the relationship between humans and their environment, between the artificial and the natural.
Every Sunday, discover the exhibition Collections in the Garden. Andrea Branzi, the Realm of the Living through the expert eye of our mediators. Guided tours last 1 hour and start at 11.30am or 2.30pm, in French only.
