In Offranville, on Normandy’s Côte d’Albâtre, the Musée Jacques-Émile Blanche presents a touching range of works by this prolific artist who was encouraged by Édouard Manet at the start of his career and would try his hand at literature and music as well as painting.

A talented portrait painter, Jacques-Émile Blanche settled in Offranville from 1902, making his home a place where leading lights in the arts and in literature would meet.

Today, the museum reflects the varied sources of Blanche’s inspiration, via still lifes (especially of flowers), interiors, and views of towns and resorts, as well as his portraiture. The place is located in the midst of the charming Parc du Colombier, on the first floor of a former cartwright’s dating back to the 18th century, renovated to also house a tearoom and centre for cultural activities and now known as La Terrasse Gourmande.

Each year, the museum, in addition to the permanent collection of Blanche’s paintings, puts on a display of works from its reserves in order to highlight specific themes dear to the artist.
