In this year celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Impressionism, a number of towns on the banks of the Seine are celebrating the birthplace of this avant-garde movement that left its mark on the history of art.

From Meudon to Levallois

At the Musée d’art et d’histoire de Meudon, the exhibition Constant Pape (1865-1920), le paysage post-impressionniste will celebrate this descendant of Impressionism, from 21st September on. In Levallois, the Salon du Roman Historique embraces the Impressionist theme with, notably, on 7th July, a reading of letters between female Impressionist Berthe Morisot and symbolist poet Stéphane Mallarmé set to music.

In Argenteuil

The town of Argenteuil is putting on a rich and varied programme of some 50 events between April and December. Les nocturnes de l’Impressionnisme, a projection mapping show on 12th and 13th April, and the exhibition Impressions urbaines will mix history and contemporary creation. On 1st May, the Fête des Berges celebrates open-air riverside leisure pursuits from 19th century to the present.

Around Chatou and Bougival

From 23rd March to 13th October, lectures, guided and theatrical tours, giant Cluedo, river cruises, cultural walks and trails, Impressionist picnics, even painting workshops… there’s a fine season of events to enjoy on the banks of the Seine here in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Impressionism!

Not to be missed is the festival Les 150 ans de l’Impressionnisme in Croissy-sur-Seine from 22nd au 24th March, the exhibition Absinthe, fée verte ou noir démon, until 30th June 2024 at the Musée de la Grenouillère, the nautical Jousts, the 1st May in Bougival, the exhibition Chefs-d’œuvre du musée: Welcome to the Maurice Denis museum, from 21st May to Musée Maurice Denis, the Dinner of the boating party organized the 1st June at the Hameau Fournaise in Chatou, not to mention the 4th edition ef the Festival Lumières impressionnistes, on the topic “Scandale, scandale !” from 5th to 7th September.
